PID – Women’s Foe

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is an infection of the women's reproductive organs or an inflammation of the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. If the infection spreads and affects the nearby tissues and organs, so tissues scar and the fallopian tubes blockage can be formed. The blockage of fallopian tubes prevent female to get pregnant, for the fertilized egg cannot implant in the uterus, it is more likely to implant outside the uterus. This kind of pregnancy is called the ectopic pregnancy which is a dangerous condition for female. It leads to internal bleeding or death for the women.

More and more women are going to have PID in the future in the United States. Although it can occur at any age, it is more likely to happen on those female who are under 25 with frequent sex intercourse. The causes of PID are sexually transmitted diseases which are Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. If female who has multiple sexual partners can infect PID easier. Childbirth, miscarriage, intrauterine device, endometrial biopsy, abortion can also make female to infect PID easily too.

Fever, irregular menstrual bleeding, severe pain in abdomen or pelvis, smelly and cloudy secretion of vagina are the symptoms of PID. Other symptoms such as painful and frequent urination, fatigue, bleeding after sex, and painful menstruation are common too. All of those symptoms mentioned above are common among patients who are with ectopic pregnancy or infertility.

Although PID isn’t a serious disease and it can be cured easily, the disease can happen again and again. And this is the reason why female should value the treatment of this disease.

There are different ways to diagnose PID. Ultrasounds are used to diagnose ectopic pregnancy when is over 6 weeks. Laproscopy is another widely used way to diagnose PID.

PID treats with antibiotics is a common way before other treating methods are invented. If the antibiotic cannot kill bacteria, the patients will be asked by doctors for further treatment. Generally, antibiotics are used to treat PID which is caused by Chlamydia, tetracyclines, erythromycin, acithromycin and quinolones. According to the nature of bacteria, the antibiotic should be different too.

With the development of medicinal technology, more and more ways are used to treat PID. Fuyan pill, an herbal medicine, is used to treat PID too. It has many advantages on treating PID.
